The Big Move!

I did it! Last Wednesday, I packed up and finally made the move out to New York City! It’s been something I’ve been wanting to do for a few years now, and I’m so happy that I took the huge leap. It definitely wasn’t easy. My last few days in California were quite stressful & emotional to say the least, but I couldn’t go on any longer wondering “What if?” For the last few days I’ve been getting settled in and exploring my new neighborhood, Clinton Hill, and I must say that I’ve absolutely fallen in love! I can’t wait to share my experiences of this amazing city with you guys! Stay tuned!

So You Want to Save the World in Style?

Earlier today while I was perusing the Rebecca Minkoff section of Nordstrom alongside another woman when she exclaimed, “I can’t believe the price of handbags these days, especially while there are so many hungry people in the world!” To which I replied,  “Not to mention even the people who make them.” That one statement really resonated with her, and gave her something to think about during the rest of her day (as she told me). This brief encounter definitely made my entire day. The fact that I could spread awareness regarding the state of the global fashion industry and that it can have an impact on someone’s way of thinking is why I care about this cause so much. Consumers as a whole can do SO much more than what we are doing currently and all it takes is someone to just speak up! So come and join me on my journey to #SavingTheWorldInStyle! I’ll be exploring up and coming brands, organizations, and looking more into what we can do. Stay tuned! xx

Saving the World in Style: The True Cost

With a major that focused on Environmental Development and Latin American studies, I learned a lot about human rights and the injustices that so many people in developing countries face daily. The fashion industry is the second most polluting industry in the world only behind the oil industry, just let that sink in for a second. On top of that, garment industry workers are forced to work in unimaginable conditions, underpaid, and often abused by their employers both physically and verbally if they try to raised concerns about the many ways that they are being mistreated. As consumers out shopping patterns have a direct effect on the textile production industry. While many see fashion as a way to express ourselves and tell a story, there is a much darker narrative that needs to be told. The fast fashion industry that provide ls a quick turnaround of the latest trends to consumers for low prices come at a much higher cost than many realize or even want to admit. Quite frankly, these clothes are literally being …

Maximalism in Milan: More is MORE!

Though I myself have fallen victim to the “normcore” trends of the past few years, the runway shows of Milan reminded me why I fell in love with fashion in the first place. Ruching and ruffles at Roberto Cavalli, classic Italian heritage at Dolce & Gabbana, and Alessandro Michele gave us Gucci with a vintage flair. Italian fashion houses have remained my favorite throughout the years because they never shy away from taking risks with the use of colors, pattern, and textures. Their creative energy is unparallveled, whereas I find the collections in NYC and Paris rather predictable. Domenico Dolce said it best, “We don’t believe in fashion for trends anymore. We want to show emotion. Just enjoy!” And with that I leave you with some of my favorite looks from Milan. Ciao!
